Springfield MSA personal income rises 4.8% in 2012

The Springfield metropolitan statistical area's personal income level grew 4.8 percent to $15.1 billion in 2012, compared to $14.4 billion in the previous year, according to estimates released last week by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Per capita personal income locally increased 3.7 percent to $33,943 from $32,721, according to a news release. The national average is estimated at $43,735.

The Springfield MSA ranked 312th in personal income on a per capita basis last year out of the 381 metropolitan areas measured by the BEA. In 2012, personal income growth slowed in 311 MSAs, accelerated in 65 and was unchanged in five. The Springfield MSA grew by 3.4 percent in 2011 compared to 2010.

On average, MSA personal income rose 4.2 percent in 2012, the release said.
