The Missouri Department of Economic Development has awarded tax credits to Springfield and Mansfield nonprofit programs, part of $6.6 million approved in the second round this fiscal year of the state's Neighborhood Assistance Program.
The DED approved $62,132 in tax credits for Bridgeton-based Missouri Baptist Children's Home's Children & Family Ministries, supporting its Springfield Family Resource Development Program, according to a news release.
The Springfield program recruits, trains and assesses foster homes, providing support for families to ensure proper placement of victims of child abuse and neglect.
The Mansfield Area Community Betterment Organization was approved for $159,394 in tax credits under the Neighborhood Assistance Program, according to a separate release.
The credits will be used to expand the organization's before- and after-school child care programs and implement an after-school tutoring program for K-12 students.
Through the Neighborhood Assistance Program, nonprofits can utilize tax credits to aid communities in the areas of crime prevention, education, job training, physical revitalization or community service. Businesses can donate cash, materials, supplies, equipment, technical assistance, professional services, labor, real estate, or stocks and bonds. According to the DED, tax credits can equal up to 50 percent of the amount contributed or up to 70 percent in rural areas.
