A Springfield man was indicted May 10 by a federal grand jury in Springfield for allegedly robbing a local Great Southern Bank branch at knife-point May 9, according to a news release from Beth Phillips, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri.
The indictment alleges that Hertin Jibas, 22, brandished a knife to steal $6,882 from Great Southern's 2735 W. Chestnut Expressway branch.
According to the release, Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott spotted a parked vehicle matching the bank robber's car shortly after the robbery occurred. Arnott called in back-up officers, leading to Jibas' arrest. Officers searched him and his car, finding a knife in the front pocket of Jibas' pants and $6,783 in cash in his car.
The case is being prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael S. Oliver and was investigated by the Springfield Police Department, the Greene County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI.[[In-content Ad]]
