Springfield lodging industry posts bump in room sales

The Queen City lodging industry’s room sales rose in June, bringing the year’s total above the same time last year, according to Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau’s September newsletter released yesterday.

During June, room sales increased nearly 9 percent to $10.9 million. The latest monthly figure brings the year-to-date total to $52.7 million, a 7.3 percent increase compared with the first six months of 2015.

Springfield’s latest lodging industry data highlights:
    •    Occupancy increased to 75 percent in June from 70 percent a year earlier. Year to date, that figure is up two percentage points to 62 percent compared with the first half of 2015.
    •    Room supply decreased by 1,180 hotel rooms to 175,360 in June, but increased by 19,105 rooms for the first six months of 2016.
    •    The average daily rate in June was $83.43, above the $82.52 rate in the same month of 2015. The year-to-date average daily rate moved up to $80.76 from $79.17.
