The Missouri Democratic Party this weekend elected Springfield lawyer Craig Hosmer as party chairman the next two years.
A month after successfully guiding Missouri Democrat Jay Nixon's bid as governor, campaign treasurer Hosmer will move from chairman of the Greene County Democratic Party to lead the statewide party. The vote came during the Missouri Democratic Party reorganization meeting in Columbia; Hosmer succeeds John Temporiti, of St. Louis.
"I'm honored to be selected," Hosmer said in a news release. "We will continue to work to build a grassroots party that elects Democrats from the top of the ticket to the bottom in every corner of our state."
In the gubernatorial campaign, Hosmer is credited for helping Nixon earn a 15,000-vote edge over Republican Kenny Hulshof in traditionally GOP-minded Greene County.
"I know he'll work with Democrats across the state to stretch the electoral map even further and turn more counties blue," Nixon said in the release. "Without a doubt, Craig is the right person to lead our party forward at this critical time for our state."
Hosmer of Hosmer, King and Royce PC is a former state representative and served as chairman of the House Criminal Law Committee. The Marshfield native attended undergraduate school at the University of Missouri and received his law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Hosmer's law firm is planning an open house 3:30-7 p.m. Friday at its new office, 313 S. Glenstone Ave.
In other action, the state committee re-elected Yolanda Wheat, of Kansas City, as vice chairwoman; Shirla Howard, of Dexter, as secretary; and Rod Anderson, of Monett, as treasurer.[[In-content Ad]]
