Springfield intersections back in operation

Posted online
Two Springfield intersections - at National Avenue and Seminole Street and at Battlefield Road and Blackman Road - are once again operational.

The intersection of National and Seminole near St. John's Hospital, which has seen the Seminole approaches to National and the signal turned off since May 17, reopened Aug. 23, according to a city of Springfield news release.

The nearly $1 million project is funded by the approximately $26 million quarter-cent Sales Tax for Capital Improvements 2007-2010 program, with the general contractor Hartman & Co., the release said.

Finishing touches and cleanup will continue until late September.

Battlefield and Blackman, which has seen 10 months of road closures, was reopened Aug. 22 by the Greene County Highway Department.

Greene County road contractor D & E Plumbing & Heating began working on the project in September 2009, eventually closing the three-way stop at Battlefield and Blackman and portions of Blackman for road improvements, a highway department release said.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this difficult project,” Greene County Highway Department Assistant Administrator Duffy Mooney said in the release.  “Our contractor still has some work to do, but we’ve reached the important milestone of getting Blackman Road reopened to traffic.”

The project is a $2 million joint effort between Greene County and the city of Springfield, with a $612,000 contribution from Jack Henry & Associates Inc., the release said.

The intersection is near Jack Henry's new Springfield campus at 3725 E. Battlefield Road.
