The Queen City’s hotel room sales rose in September, bringing year-to-date figures ahead of where they were at the same time last year, according to the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau’s latest newsletter.
September room sales increased 2.5 percent to $8.9 million. That brought year-to-date sales up 5.9 percent to $81.6 million.
In 2015, Springfield’s hotel room sales passed $100 million for the first time in the city’s history.
The number of Springfield hotel rooms occupied in September came to 64.6 percent, above 61.6 percent a year earlier. Through September, year-to-date occupancy improved to 63.8 percent from 61.5 percent at the same time in 2015, according to the CVB.
Other highlights:
• Room supply - the number of hotel rooms in the city multiplied by the number of days in the month or year to date - dropped to 169,350 in September from 174,720 a year earlier. Year-to-date room supply ticked up to 1.58 million from 1.57 million.
• The average daily rate rose to $81.18 in September from $80.41 a year earlier. The year-to-date average was $81.09, above $79.63 at the same time in 2015.
• Revenue per available room increased to $52.42 from $49.55 in September 2015. The year-to-date figure rose to $51.74 from $48.96.
