Springfield hotel room sales rise through September

Springfield hotel operators made $8.7 million on room sales in September, an 11 percent increase from $7.8 million in the same month last year.

With the latest sales, year-to-date figures moved up to $77.1 million from $70.8 million, according to the latest data from the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau released this morning in its November newsletter.

While the occupancy rate increased to 61.6 percent from 59.3 percent for the month, the rate moved down to 61.5 percent through September compared to 61.9 percent in the same period a year earlier.

The Queen City’s room supply rose to 174,720, pushing an increase to 1.6 million for the year.

Airport traffic
The newsletter indicated traffic at Springfield-Branson National Airport increased by 13 percent to 79,484 passengers in September from 70,279 a year earlier.

Traffic, comprising people flying in and out of the airport, has risen every month this year, except February.

Through September, enplanements and deplanements grew 7.7 percent to 686,211 from 636,678 at the same time in 2014, according to the CVB.
