Springfield home to least expensive gas statewide

Posted online

Springfield gas stations held the top three spots this morning on GasBuddy.com’s list of the lowest prices for a fill-up in Missouri.

In far south Springfield, the Eagle Stop Cenex station at 5384 S. Campbell Ave. had a price of $2.10 per gallon, the lowest cost in the state. The 740 W. El Camino Alto Sam’s Club and 5343 S. Campbell Ave. Kum & Go had gas priced at $2.15 per gallon, tying for second in Missouri, according to GasBuddy.

Statewide, gas prices fell by 3 cents during the past week to an average of $2.40 per gallon this morning. That’s 4.1 cents lower than a month ago and 19.3 cents below the same time a year ago, according to a news release from GasBuddy.

Comparatively, the national average dropped 2.6 cents to $2.70 per gallon. The U.S. average has fallen 5.6 cents from a month ago and 15.8 cents from a year ago.

"Gas prices have remained somewhat stable in the last week, falling in most communities across the country as oil prices remain under fire over renewed concerns of an economic slowdown in the U.S. as President [Donald] Trump slapped China with new sanctions, driving the worry," said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, in the release. "It appears less and less likely that the trade spat between the world's two largest economies will cease any time soon, and that threat will likely stifle gas prices for the immediate future."
