Springfield home prices rise 4% in January

Posted online
Springfield home prices, including distressed sales, rose 4 percent in January compared to the same month in 2013, according to real estate market tracker CoreLogic (NYSE: CLGX).

Excluding distressed sales - which comprise short sales and real estate owned transactions - January home prices in Springfield increased 5.3 percent compared to the same month a year ago, according to a news release.

Nationally, home prices including distressed sales jumped 12 percent in January. Excluding distressed sales, prices rose 9.8 percent.

The January movement represents the 23rd consecutive month of year-over-year increases in home prices nationally, the release said.

"Polar vortices and a string of snow storms did not manage to weaken house price appreciation in January," CoreLogic Chief Economist Mark Fleming said in the release. "The last time January month-over-month and year-over-year price appreciation was this strong was at the height of the housing bubble in 2006."
