The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield last week presented its top honors of the year.
Travis Miller of Travis Miller Homes LLC was named HBA Builder Member of the Year; Nixa-based Quality Masonry LLC was recognized as the HBA Associate Company of the Year; and Debi Murray of Murney Associates, Realtors received the 2015 Associate Individual of the Year award and was inducted as a member of the local chapter’s HBA Hall of Fame.
Miller serves as secretary of the local HBA’s board of directors, according to a news release. He also is chairman of the HBA regulatory advocacy committee and its membership involvement points committee. Miller helped develop the association’s current local strategic plan and routinely attends HBA networking events, according to a news release.
Quality Masonry owners Javier and Michelle Romero are active in the HBA, having participated in at the Home Show, Home Remodeling Show, Belt Sander Races, Corn Madness and golf tournaments, according to the release. Michelle Romero serves on the HBA Charitable Foundation board and is slated to be the vice president in 2016.
Murray has served on the HBA Charitable Foundation board and currently sits on the Springfield HBA’s board of directors. She also worked on the current strategic plan and has focused specifically on the organization’s educational efforts.
Other awards presented at the annual event:
• Ron Deffenderfer of Springfield-based Building LLC also was inducted into the 2015 HBA Hall of Fame class for his contributions to the group. Deffenderfer moved to the Springfield area in 1975, became a full-time builder and joined the HBA. Now retired, he served as president 1980-1981.
• Board of Directors Awards were presented to individuals that made an impact through volunteerism in 2015. Recipients included Mike Benna of Meeks Design Center, Debbie Speake of Springfield Electric LLC, Greg Adkins of Coldwell Banker Vanguard Realtors, Ed Alden of Stenger Homes LLC and Kevin Scheer of Taylor Marble Co.
• Miller also receive the President’s award for his assistance to the board president and efforts to improve the industry and/or the association, according to the release.
The local HBA’s Dec. 15 award event was held at Convoy of Hope.
April 7 was the official opening day for Mexican-Italian fusion restaurant Show Me Chuy after a soft launch that started March 31; marketing agency AdZen debuted; and the Almighty Sando Shop opened a brick-and-mortar space.
