Springfield grads could receive $22M in scholarships

The 1,700 seniors who graduated from Springfield Public Schools last week stand to receive $22 million in scholarships, according to information released by the school district.

Students have already accepted more than $17.4 million, up from $15.9 million accepted by students graduating in May 2009. Another $4.5 million is available during the next four years for 2010 graduates in the A+ Program, which offers scholarships to students attending the state's community colleges or vocational schools.

Students from Central High School accepted $2.4 million. Hillcrest seniors received $2.1 million. Glendale graduates accepted $3.9 million, seniors from Kickapoo received $6.4 million, and Parkview graduates accepted $3 million in scholarships. Students at Bailey Alternative High School and in the district's Middle College program received nearly $20,000 in scholarships.

Districtwide, 84 students qualified for the Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship program by scoring in the top 3 percent in the state on the ACT or SAT test, and 310 seniors were National Honor Society members.[[In-content Ad]]
