Springfield gas price jump eclipses statewide increase

Missouri's average gas price rose 10.5 cents during the past week to $3.53 per gallon on Labor Day, but Springfield prices eclipsed that number, rising as much as twice the statewide figure.

This morning, the lowest price of gas in Springfield was $3.48 per gallon, available at the 3660 E. Sunshine St. location of Sam's Club, according to MissouriGasPrices.com. That's up from a low price of $3.30 per gallon at the city's Sam's Club stores a week ago.

Gas prices at other filling stations in Springfield ranged from $3.49 to $3.63 per gallon.

At $3.15 per gallon, five stations in Dexter were selling the lowest priced gas in Missouri this morning, while a St. Louis station had the highest, at $3.79 per gallon. GasBuddy.com surveys 3,940 gas outlets in Missouri daily.

With the increase during the past week, Missouri's average rose 3.9 cents month-to-month but decreased 14.4 cents year-to-year. The national average, which moved up 4.1 cents to $3.61 per gallon during the past week, registered a 2.4-cent decrease during the past month and an 18.7-cent drop from a year ago, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.

Missouri ranked No. 17 this morning on GasBuddy's list of the lowest gas prices in the U.S. At $3.25 per gallon, South Carolina was first on the list, while Hawaii was last, at $4.29 per gallon.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $107.65 per barrel as of 10:36 a.m., up from $106.42 a week ago. Light sweet crude oil futures for October were trading at $107.95 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
