Springfield foreclosures fall

The Springfield foreclosure rate dropped to 0.53 percent in January, down from 0.86 percent in the same month a year earlier, according to the data provided today by real estate market tracker CoreLogic Inc. (NYSE: CLGX).

Measured by CoreLogic as the percentage of loans in some stage of the foreclosure process, local foreclosure figures also ranked below the U.S. average of 1.97 percent for January. In Missouri, the average dropped to 0.71 percent in January from 1.07 percent in the same month last year, according to a news release.

The Springfield mortgage delinquency rate - a precursor of foreclosures representing mortgage loans 90 days or more delinquent - decreased to 2.35 percent from 3.1 percent; the Missouri rate moved down to 3.42 percent from 4.04 percent; and the U.S. rate fell to 4.93 percent from 6.36 percent.
