Springfield Fire Department receives federal grant

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded the Springfield Fire Department a $24,000 grant to enhance its operations and safety.

The department will use the Assistance to Firefighters Grant for training, equipment, personal protective gear, wellness and fitness, and modifications to stations and other facilities.

The grant program awards one-year grants to fire departments through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Preparedness Directorate’s Office of Grants and Training, in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
