Springfield distributor recalls trampolines

Posted online
About 668,000 fitness trampolines produced by Springfield’s Stamina Products Inc. have been recalled because of a potential for injury during the product’s assembly and disassembly processes.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced April 6 that Stamina has voluntarily recalled certain models of its InMotion Trampolines and has revised the product’s manual to prevent injury.

According to a news release from the commission, the trampoline’s outside rail, if released momentarily, can snap back into the folded position and strike the consumer.

Stamina has received 13 reports of injuries related to the product, including two concussions; a rotated disc; two reports of facial bone fractures; six injuries requiring stitches to the forehead, eyebrow, lip or chin; a corneal abrasion; and two reports of chipped teeth, according to the release.

The revised manual now repeatedly states, “Always use two or more strong people to unfold and fold the trampoline. When unfolding, the rails will try to spring back into the folded position. Failure to use to two or more strong people may allow the rails to spring back into the folded position and strike someone.”

Most trampolines with model number 35-1625 are included in the recall. Trampolines with model numbers 35-1625C and 35-1625CW are not included. The model number is displayed on a black-and-white label on one of the trampoline’s legs.

The product was sold locally at Wal-Mart and Play It Again Sports and at various other retail outlets nationwide and online, including Wal-Mart.com, between August 2000 and March 2006. The product, manufactured in China, sold for a retail price of about $20.

The trampoline is round, black, 36 inches across and has six 7.5-inch metal legs. It is used for in-place jogging and other cardiovascular exercises.

Stamina was founded in 1987 and distributes fitness and leisure products.
