Dayco Products Inc. has announced that the quality management systems at three of its Power Transmission Products plants and Tech Center have been registered as compliant with the International ISO 9001 standard, including the plant in Springfield.
While ISO 9001 registration is an accomplishment to be proud of, it is extremely rare that registration is granted for multiple sites under the same application, according to a release from Dayco.
The Dayco plants named are located in Springfield, Red Wing, Minn., and Fort Scott, Kan. The Tech Center is also located in Springfield.
A company spokesman said the registration process was a huge project involving thousands of man-hours and requiring the cooperation and support of hundreds of people within the organization.
Spearheading the certification effort were K.C. Cameron, of Fort Scott; Chuck Cragoe and Don Dopkins, of Red Wing; Ken Eck, of Springfield Tech Center; and Ron Morris and Jerry Bolerjack, of the Springfield plant, the release said.
According to Randy Daugharthy, of Bureau Veritas Quality International, "Meeting growing customer demands for higher levels of quality is vital to the future success of companies in all types of business. Dayco has demonstrated its commitment to achieving higher levels of quality and to the continuous improvement of its management system by successfully attaining this multi-site registration achievement."
The International Organization for Standardization's Technical Committee (TC176) produces the international quality management and quality assurance standards known as the ISO 9000 series, the release said.
ISO is responsible for creating and publishing international standards which facilitate international exchange of goods and services. More than 100 countries participate in ISO.
The standards outline the collective plans, responsibilities, procedures and resources which ensure that customer requirements will be met. ISO 9000 provides a starting point for all-encompassing quality efforts, the release said.
The ISO 9000 standards stipulate where organizations need documentation to validate processes and approaches.
ISO 9000 requirements include:
?management that is committed, involved, focused and responsive,
?people who are organized, responsible, authorized, competent, empowered and knowledgeable,
?processes that are visible, traceable, consistent, repeatable, measurable and documentable,
?documents that are appropriate, relevant, simple, understandable and consistent with processes in use.
ISO 9000 registration ensures that organizations make time to understand what their key quality processes are, and that the processes are implemented and maintained to a degree that they can be demonstrated to an outside agency.
Benefits of ISO 9000 registration include higher perceived quality, improved customer satisfaction, competitive edge and reduced customer audits, the release said. Registration also results in better documentation, greater quality awareness, positive cultural change and increased efficiency and productivity.
