Assemblies of God Credit Union plans to shutter one of its four branches at month’s end.

Bruce Webb, AGCU’s president and CEO, said March 27 is the planned closure date for its branch at 1455 W. Battlefield Road, just east of Kansas Expressway.

“It’s actually a response to the changing preferences of our members regarding where and how they are conducting transactions with the credit union,” he said. “We’ve been tracking this for several years, and we decided to reallocate the resources from the Battlefield office into new technology to help meet that growing demand by our members.”

Webb said the company is working to boost the visibility of its video and mobile banking solutions among members.

The Battlefield Road branch’s two-and-a-half full-time equivalent employees will be reassigned within the company, he said.

AGCU also operates branches on North Campbell Avenue and East Independence Street in Springfield, as well as a location in Waxahachie, Texas, according to its website. Webb said the credit union would seek to sell the 2,667-square-foot Battlefield Road building it owns. An asking price hasn’t yet been determined.

AGCU ranked No. 2 on Springfield Business Journal’s 2019 list of the area’s largest credit unions, with 2018 assets of $171.6 million. Its membership was nearly 11,000 as of April 8, 2019. The credit union’s membership includes attendees of Assemblies of God churches, as well as AG schools, retirees and immediately family, according to SBJ list research.
