YOUR BUSINESS AUTHORITY
Springfield, MO
by Randy Hawkins
The Springfield Contractors Association was formed in 1953 for the purpose of negotiating with trade unions.
Over the years, the SCA has evolved into a full-service organization of more than 350 member firms that serve southwest Missouri.
Members such as George Innes have developed such programs as the Developer of the Year Award and the SCA newsletter.
Until the mid-1980s, volunteer presidents were expected to use their staffs to help direct programs and assist the president and the board in running the organization.
In the mid-1980s, the board voted to create the position of executive director.
Today's executive director, Sheryl Letterman, has been with us for 12 years.
Under the leadership of the various boards and executive director, the SCA has started and maintained such programs as the Developer of the Year honor, the SCA Scholarship Program and the SCA Employment Service.
Many events have also been developed and maintained, such as the Golf Outing, Pig Roast and Casino Party (a scholarship fund raiser). We are now developing our new, 6,400-square-foot office building at 1313 N. Nias.
This will house the SCA offices, F.W. Dodge Construction reporting offices and provide meeting and conference room facilities for our members.
The SCA has been, is now and always will be an organization dedicated to promoting its contractor members and the Springfield construction community.
(Randy Hawkins, of Conco Companies, is past president of the Springfield Contractors Association.)
