A Chick-fil-A restaurant in Springfield is among eateries in the chain nationwide to hit a donation benchmark in a corporate giving initiative that dates back to 2012.
The restaurant at 425 W. Sunshine St., at the Campbell Avenue intersection, is one of eight restaurants in seven states to cross the threshold of 100,000 meals donated through the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program, according to a news release. The initiative calls on restaurant operators to donate surplus food to nonprofit partners.
“Their commitment represents more than numbers – it reflects a spirit of generosity that’s fueling care across the country,” corporate officials said in the release.
The Sunshine and Campbell Chik-fil-A restaurant, operated by franchisee Brian Heberlie since its late 2015 launch, has donated approximately 103,000 meals to date to The Salvation Army Springfield chapter's Harbor House shelter and transitional housing program for men experiencing homelessness.
Chick-fil-A's website estimates the more than 2,500 restaurants participating in the Shared Table program have donated around 42 million meals.
