Springfield Catholic director named high school principal

Posted online
The Springfield Catholic School Board voted unanimously to elect Amy DeMelo, director of the school district, to serve an additional role as principal of Springfield Catholic High School during the 2011-12 school year.

DeMelo will succeed Principal Tim Dilg, who announced his resignation Jan. 18 after agreeing to take a job as principal of St. John Vianney High School in St. Louis, effective July 1, according to the Springfield Catholic Schools Web site.

The decision to select DeMelo for the position was based on her administrative experience and one of the school district's long-range plans to move Springfield Catholic Schools' central offices to the high school in July, according to a news release.

“I sincerely look forward to being part of a school building again and working closely with students, teachers and families," DeMelo said in the release.

DeMelo has worked at Springfield Catholic Schools for more than 15 years, 11 of those as both a teacher and administrator. She has served as director of the school district since 2007, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

DeMelo was selected by SBJ as one of its 20 honorees for the 2010 Most Influential Women awards ceremony.

DeMelo holds her doctorate in educational leadership from University of Missouri.[[In-content Ad]]
