Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Springfield businessman Steven Stepp to serve on the 31st Circuit Judicial Commission.
Stepp owns National Audio Co. Inc., Old Spring Redevelopment Co. LLC and National Talking Books for the Blind. He also is a U.S. Army veteran, according to a news release.
When a judicial vacancy occurs in the 31st Circuit, the judicial commission is tasked with nominating three individuals for the position who meet statutory requirements. Of the three names submitted to Nixon by the commission, the governor will select one to serve, according to the release.
According to the U.S. Federal Election Commission, Stepp is a longtime Democratic supporter, donating $41,550 to political campaigns since 1999.
Stepp’s judicial commission term ends Dec. 31, 2018.
