Springfield business owner named to commission

Posted online
Gov. Matt Blunt appointed Loren Cook II, owner of Loren Cook Co. in Springfield, to the Missouri Housing Development Commission.

Pending Senate confirmation, Cook would join Blunt, Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, Attorney General Jay Nixon, Treasurer Sarah Steelman and six other members appointed to the commission by the governor.

Cook would replace Gary Collins, whose term expired.

The commission acts as a bank to provide financing for housing to nonprofit and limited dividend organizations, which use the loans to build affordable housing for low-income Missourians. The commission also distributes loans with low interest rates to first-time home buyers.

The federal Low Income Housing, Missouri Low Income Housing and Affordable Housing Assistance tax credits also are all administered by the commission.

The commission’s mortgage financing is available through the sale of tax-exempt notes and bonds.

Cook’s company produces industrial and commercial fans and blowers.
