Springfield area personal income rises

The Springfield metropolitan area ranked 244 out of 367 metro areas in per capita personal income growth, according to a recent report released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Per capita personal income in the Springfield metro area rose to $28,075 last year from $27,012 in 2004, according to the report. Total personal income rose 5.9 percent during the same period.

On average nationally, personal income increased 5 percent in 2005, down from 6 percent in 2004. Per capita income rose 4 percent last year, down from 4.9 percent in 2004.

Surrounding metro areas ranked by per capita personal income were:

• St. Louis, $36,174, No. 55.

• Kansas City, $35,859, No. 60.

• Columbia, $31,309, No. 148.

• Fayetteville, Ark., $27,806, No. 257.

The Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk, Conn., metro area ranked first with a per capita personal income of $66,719. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, Texas, area ranked last with a per capita income of $16,022.
