Springfield-area foreclosure rate drops in October

The Springfield-area foreclosure rate dropped to 0.85 percent in October, down from 1.34 percent in the same month of 2011, according to the latest data from Santa Ana, Calif.-based real estate data tracking firm CoreLogic (NYSE: CLGX).

The October area foreclosure rate also dropped from 0.95 percent in September.

The Springfield-area foreclosure rate in October was lower than both that of Missouri and the U.S.

The October foreclosure rate in Missouri was 1.07 percent  - down from 1.54 percent in October 2011 - and the U.S. rate registered at 3.06 percent in October - down from 3.56 percent in the same month last year, according to a news release.

The 90-day delinquency rate, a precursor of foreclosures, showed across-the-board decreases. The October rate settled at 3.08 percent in Springfield, 4.05 percent in Missouri and 6.53 percent in the U.S.
