Springfield architect to vie for House seat

Posted online
A Springfield architect has decided to run for political office.

Dan Scott, a Republican, has decided to vie for the seat that Republican Representative Mark Wright is vacating in the Missouri House of Representatives due to term limits.

If elected, Scott would represent the 137th legislative district, which includes downtown and stretches from Interstate 44 south to Grand Street and from West Bypass to National Avenue.

“I was born and raised in the district,” Scott said. “I’ve just had a long-standing connection that, frankly, a lot of other people can’t claim.”

Scott’s experience is in business, not politics, but he said his business experience has prepared him for Jefferson City.

“I’ve always felt like it would be something that would fit my skill set,” he said.

Scott owns The Design Agency LLC, an architecture firm formed in 1992, and Jericho Development Co. LLC, a commercial property development company formed in 1997.

He’s currently developing a $2.8 million downtown loft/retail project called 400 Place at 400 E. Walnut.

“My husband’s a born leader,” said his wife, Melissa Scott. “He’s just the type of person that people gravitate to.”
