Springfield airport adds new destination

Posted online
Springfield-Branson Regional Airport is making good on its promise to expand its list of destinations.

Airport officials announced June 1 that Delta Airlines will add two nonstop flights between Springfield and Salt Lake City. The flights will run every day beginning July 1.

Delta entered the Springfield market in April 2004, offering Delta Connection and Comair service from Springfield to Cincinnati. Since its Springfield service began, Delta has 8 percent of the market share of all Springfield airport passengers.

“We’re exceptionally pleased that Delta/Delta Connection is expanding in this market,” Gary Cyr, airport director of aviation, said in a news release. “With the addition of more western access for air travelers, we expect the Salt Lake City service to be as successful as Delta’s Cincinnati service has been.”

Salt Lake City is the 10th city with nonstop service available from Springfield.

Delta also will be offering introductory fares on those Springfield flights until June 15.

Salt Lake City is the second new destination added to the Springfield airport this year. Allegiant Air began offering weekly nonstop flights April 21 between Springfield and Las Vegas. The addition was successful enough to warrant two more flights per week, which begin June 17.

Airport officials report that as of April 30 passenger volume is up 24 percent over last year.
