Springfield accounting firms merge

Posted online
Springfield certified public accounting firms Tucker and Co. PC and O'Dell, Hagan & Co. LLP have joined forces to form a new company.

Partners Joe Tucker and Don Hagan said the merger closed Oct. 1. No money changed hands in the deal, which was announced in a news release yesterday.

“This was a true merger of two equal firms,” Tucker said this morning.

The combined firm, dubbed Hagan, Tucker, Schmitt & Gintz LLC, works out of 4,050 square feet at 1609 S. Enterprise Ave., the office where O'Dell, Hagan & Co. operated.

“It’s a very competitive field out there,” said Tucker, who founded Tucker and Co. in 1987. “With this merger, we are gaining so much. The longevity and the continuity of the practice has now been solidified.”

Hagan, Tucker, Schmitt & Gintz has 15 employees, nine of whom came from Tucker & Co. Tucker’s firm also brought three CPAs to join O'Dell, Hagan & Co.’s two.

CPAs Tucker and Hagan declined to disclose client or revenue numbers.

The merged firm is led by managing partners Hagan and Jeff Schmitt. Tucker said Schmitt and Steve Gintz became partners in his firm in January 2010.

O'Dell, Hagan & Co. was founded in 1981 by Steve O’Dell, who died in 2006. His wife, Sherry, who also was a CPA at the firm, retired in 2011, Hagan said. Hagan’s wife Leilani also is a CPA and partner of Hagan, Tucker, Schmitt & Gintz. Counting the two Hagans, the firm has five partners.

Tucker & Co.’s services include tax preparation and planning, accounting and bookkeeping, and consultancy and advisory work. O'Dell, Hagan & Co.’s operations include corporate tax planning, as well as estate and trust accounting.
