The Springfield Underground Command Station is designed to provide a resting place for over-the-road truck drivers, as well as an elevated security patrol for a large semitrailer staging area. The project is valued at $1 million, according to a building permit on file with the city. The structure is a glass box wrapped with a fiberglass bar grate to provide sun shading. Engineering work is provided by Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc., civil; J&M Engineering LLC, structural; and Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The project is slated for completion in June.
