TLC Properties is doubling the size of The Abbey apartments. Owner Sam Coryell Sr. is adding 165 units under a $12 million expansion plan, which is Phase V of the complex. Coryell Enterprises is acting as general contractor. “We’ve taken everything we’ve learned over the last 15 years in this construction business, and we’re putting it into these units,” Coryell said, pointing to standard washer and dryer units in each unit. Architects H Design Group matched the design of the existing structure. The circular building will connect on the south side via a third-floor “walkover,” which is home to a 60-seat movie theater with 120-inch screen. Coryell said units will begin hitting the market by mid-May, with final completion Oct. 1 – just in time for Coryell’s Oct. 2 birthday. “It’ll be a great birthday present,” he said. Regions Bank is the lender.
