Work continues on the $5.9 million state crime lab facility in downtown Springfield by general contractor Flintco Inc. The architectural design of the three-story facility was a collaborative effort of Creative Ink Architects and Buxton-Kubik-Dodd Inc. Engineering is by Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing; Meridian Structural Works Inc., structural; and ESC Inc., civil. The lab will have 49,000 square feet on the first floor, 57,000 square feet on the second floor and 17,500 square feet on the third floor. The crime lab is funded via a lease-purchase agreement for the city-owned building, federal grant money and low-interest bonds backed by 14 area banks. Flintco project manager David Mann said that despite potential delays brought on by weather, crews are working toward completion in late 2008.
