General contractor Rich Kramer Construction is adding 9,896 square feet to the 35,000-square-foot Springfield Art Museum. Roofing and exterior framing is done, according to D.J. Hill, project manager with Rich Kramer Construction. She said mechanical work is ongoing, and crews are working on interior framing and hanging Sheetrock. St. Louis firm Paul Marti Associates Architects and Springfield-based Marshall-Waters-Woody Associates Inc. are the architectural team for the approximately $3.5 million project. The engineers are: Anderson Engineering Inc., civil; St. Louis-based Larson Engineering, structural; and St. Louis-based McClure Engineering, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The project is funded by donations, which include a $200,000 gift from Southwest Missouri Museum Associates. The added space will be climate controlled to help preserve the museum’s $5 million, 9,000-piece collection. Space also will be available for a gift shop, library, entrance hall and three galleries. Future renovations could include upgrades to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in the existing building, which was constructed in 1958. The museum addition is scheduled to be substantially complete by June 28. [[In-content Ad]]
