A topping-out ceremony – commemorating the setting of the highest beam at Missouri State University’s $67 million JQH Arena – was held April 8. Kansas City-based construction management firm JE Dunn Construction Co. continues work on the 214,000-square-foot arena. Financial gifts from Domino’s Pizza and Chevy Dealers of the Ozarks were announced during the topping-out ceremony, bringing the total raised for arena construction and enhancement to about $7.2 million. Design work for the 11,000-seat arena is led by Minneapolis-based Ellerbe Becket, with architecture and interior design by Pellham Phillips Architects and Engineers. Engineers are Colorado-based Martin & Martin, structural; St. Louis-based Ross & Baruzzini Engineers Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing; and Scott Consulting Engineers PC, civil. The arena is scheduled to open in time for the 2008-09 basketball season.
