Flintco Inc. is the general contractor for the renovation/addition under way at Cherokee Middle School for the Springfield R-XII School District. Sapp Design Associates Architects PC designed the project, which entails the demolition of 46,623 square feet, construction of 69,712 square feet and renovation of 55,645 square feet. On balance, the 101,968-square-foot middle school will increase to 125,357 square feet. Engineers for the project are Anderson Engineering Inc., civil; Scott Consulting Engineers PC, structural; and Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The estimated $15 million cost is funded by the district’s $96.5 million bond initiative, approved by voters in April 2006. Originally built in 1960 as Kickapoo South, Cherokee has undergone 12 additions, most recently the technology center added in 1994. Completion of the current project is slated for fall 2009.
