Famed sports journalist Frank Deford died May 28. He was 78.
Deford wrote for Sports Illustrated for 50 years and was a sports voice on National Public Radio. He retired from NPR after 37 years earlier this month.
He also was the first sportswriter to receive the National Humanities Medal in 2013 from then-President Barack Obama.
