John Citron, 50, of Mountain Grove, was introduced at a news conference at Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Citron begins as director Feb. 1.
The position has been vacant since previous director Brad Eldridge resigned in August 2004 to work in real estate. Larry Krauck, then-sports sales manager for Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau, served as interim director, but he took a job as special events director with Dick Clark American Bandstand Theatre in Branson last spring.
Citron is the former director of the Tallahassee Sports Council in Florida, a division of the Tallahassee Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, according to a commission news release. He also has served as interim president of the Tallahassee CVB, interim executive director of the Leon County Tourist Development Council in Florida, and sports program manager for the Governor’s Council on Fitness and Sports in Florida.
Citron has a master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in sports administration and a bachelor’s degree in business management.
