The Sporting Kansas City soccer club has parted ways with its sporting director a week after his hiring was announced.
Fans drew issue with Gavin Wilkinson's handling of sexual misconduct claims at the Portland Thorns, where he was fired in 2022.
“In making this difficult decision, we want to first acknowledge the passion of our fans, our community of supporters, our partners and our stakeholders," Sporting KC principal owner Michael Illig said. "Our action today demonstrates our longstanding, unequivocal respect for their voices, and the belief that we are all stronger when we listen to one another.”
