Posted online

Kansas City-based Spencer Fane LLP has appointed a Springfield attorney to partner as part of firmwide promotions that took effect at the start of the year.

Benjamin Shantz, who works at the law firm's Springfield office in Farmers Park, is among 13 lawyers at the company who were elected to partner, according to a news release. The promotions became effective Jan. 1.

“Each of our new partners exemplify not only exceptional technical experience but also what it means to live out our firm’s core values whether in regard to their humility, commitment to collaboration, or delivering results-driven service to clients,” Spencer Fane Chair Patrick J. Whalen said in the release. “We congratulate them on this hard-earned and well-deserved career milestone and look forward to witnessing the impact their marked talents will have on our firm, clients and our communities.”

Shantz is a trial attorney who focuses on real estate and construction work in his law practice. With a bachelor's from Duke University and his Juris Doctor from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Shantz serves on boards including City Utilities of Springfield, the Springfield Community Land Trust and the History Museum on the Square.

Spencer Fane's website lists eight partners in Springfield.

Spencer Fane ranked No. 3 on Springfield Business Journal's 2024 list of the area's largest law firms. The company reported 16 local attorneys and 31 staff members for the list published in May.
