"The Haunting"

Directed by: Jan De Bont

Starring: Lili Taylor, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Liam Neeson, Owen Wilson

Rated: PG-13

With a megahit director like Jan De Bont ("Speed," "Twister") and a big money cast led by Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones it may come as a surprise that the real star of this remake is the house in which the action takes place.

"The Haunting" was first made in 1963, based on the novel by Shirley Jackson, "The Haunting of Hill House." Robert Wise, who also gave us such chilling fare as "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "The Andromeda Strain" (and let's not forget the exercise in fright "The Sound of Music"), derived the terror in his film from the shadows rather than the things we could see
