The S&P 500 and Nasdaq on Tuesday closed at record highs.
The S&P 500 ended the day just below its intraday record of 2,940.91, while the Nasdaq was up 1.3% to 8120.82.
Just six months ago, the S&P 500 had its worst performance since 2008.
