The S&P 500, Wall Street’s main barometer of health, has fallen into a bear market.
The index is down nearly 22% from a high set on Jan. 3. The Nasdaq, which is down 32.7% from a peak set in November 2021, also is in a bear market.
The Federal Reserve has signaled it will aggressively raise interest rates as inflation hits highs not seen in 40 years.
