U.S. Department of Agriculture officials yesterday detailed the $12 billion assistance package for farmers hurt by retaliatory tariffs.
Soybean farmers will receive $3.6 billion of the $4.7 billion in initial payments to producers of seven commodities based on production.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said the programs are necessary because farmers "cannot pay their bills with simple patriotism."
