Southwest Steel to bring 100 jobs, $18M investment to northeast Ark.

Newport, Ark.-based Southwest Steel Processing LLC announced Monday it plans to invest $18 million in its northeast Arkansas parts plant and hire 100 workers there over the next two years.

The plans would bring total employment at its Newport plant to 220 with the expansion that allows a new forging line for the company that makes railcar and oil and gas components.

The expansion project is supported by a variety of local and state incentives, including $11 million in bond guarantees by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission and Arkansas Development Finance Authority.
