Last edited 9:51 a.m., Oct. 20, 2025 [Correction: The Oct. 15 article, "Southwest Missouri Realty merges into Murney Associates, Realtors" contained incomplete gross residential sales for 2023 from Southwest Missouri Realty, based on 2024 list research. The article has been updated with information from SBJ's 2025 list of the area's largest residential real estate firms, published Oct. 20. ]
Two of the top residential real estate firms in the Springfield area have combined.
Southwest Missouri Realty began the merger into Murney Associates, Realtors on Oct. 7 and completed the agreement on Oct. 10 for undisclosed terms, said Tonya Murfin, who led and owned Southwest Missouri Realty with fellow managing broker Shannon Todd.
The Southwest Missouri Realty name has been dissolved with the move, said Murfin. Southwest Missouri Realty was founded in 2013, while Murney Associates, Realtors has been in business since 1997.
"We came to amicable terms for both parties," she said.
Murfin said most of Southwest Missouri Realty's 26 active licensed residential agents made the move with her and Todd to Murney Associates, Realtors.
"We've been in business for 13 years," Murfin said. "Life changes and business changes, and it was just time for us to go a different direction. Murney was our top choice."
In a Facebook post last week, officials with Murney Associates, Realtors said the agreement would help create "one stronger Murney team with the same mission: changing lives through real estate to help our community flourish."
"We’re grateful to be growing our team and look forward to serving you with the same care, expertise and dedication you’ve always known from Murney," the Oct. 6 Facebook post reads.
Murney Associates, Realtors ranked No. 1 and Southwest Missouri Realty placed No. 7 on Springfield Business Journal’s 2025 list of the area’s largest residential real estate firms. Murney reported gross residential sales in 2024 of $1.4 billion, with total residential transactions that year of 4,256. Southwest Missouri Realty reported $53.4 million in 2024 gross residential sales and 80 total residential transactions that year.
