Southwest Missouri News-Joplin

Posted online

by Carol Harris, Branson area, and Mary Engler-Guccione, Joplin area

A Texas-based commuter carrier is considering starting local service that would give Joplin a new link to westbound air travel.

Aspen Mountain Air is looking at the Joplin market. Joplin has been without service to Dallas since Lone Star Airlines ended local routes in 1995.

Joplin has service to eastbound destinations via TransWorld Express, which flies to St. Louis, and Northwest Airlink, which flies to Memphis, Tenn.

Aspen Mountain Air has a hub at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and offices near that airport and at Aspen, Colo. The company flies 19- and 30-passenger aircraft, and serves about 25 cities in Texas, Arkansas, Florida and Tennessee, as well as some in Mexico.
