FAG Bearings is preparing for a major expansion.
The company, which employs 16,000 people worldwide, is one of the largest international manufacturers of bearings.
With the plant expansion in Joplin, more jobs could be moving into the
area.
The expansion is part of a $52 million worldwide upgrade by the parent company, FAG Group of Germany.
The company reports the Joplin expansion could cost close to $10 million, double its production and increase the plant's payroll to about 600 workers.
The Joplin plant makes bearing components for automotive, industrial, transportation and aerospace purposes.
New state-of-the-art machinery, to be installed as part of the expansion, is expected to arrive in late fall.
