The Joplin Chamber of Commerce has honored four area teachers for their dedication and hard work.

Dana Shadwick, Lynn Ramsour, Patsy Robinson and Steven McCollum were this year's recipients of the 1998 Golden Apple Awards.

The Golden Apple Awards program is designed to recognize excellence in the teaching profession. It is sponsored by Empire District Electric Company and the Pillsbury Company.

The four award recipients were chosen from 40 teachers in Joplin's public and private schools who were nominated.

Shadwick is a kindergarten teacher at West Central Elementary School. Ramsour is a third-grade teacher at Irving Elementary School, and Robinson is a seventh-grade social studies teacher at North Accelerated Middle School. McCollum teaches 12th grade history at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School.
