The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development has recognized Joplin's efforts in community development.

For the second year, HUD will honor Joplin with the John J. Gunther Blue Ribbon Practices Award for outstanding management of programs funded by the department.

Joplin received the award for its rehabilitation grants program, which assists eligible homeowners with building code violations using videotaped accounts.

The Gunther Award recognizes and honors state and local governments for administering HUD-funded programs.

These programs are designed to increase the supply of affordable housing, create jobs and strengthen communities.
