St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin and the Maude Norton Memorial City Hospital in Columbus, Kan., recently announced their plans for an affiliation to enhance existing patient care services and strengthen health care accessibility in the southeast Kansas area.

St. John's has staffed and operated the Family Health Clinic in Columbus, Kan., since 1986.

The Mercy Regional Health Foundation, a branch of St. John's, has supported the area's emergency medical services through grants and donations.

Now the Maude Norton board of trustees is looking to take a more direct role in the day-to-day management of the clinic facilities.

In order to do this, staff of both Maude Norton and St. John's will be working together in Columbus to provide better medical services.
