A Joplin hospital has announced the addition of a new staff member.

Marshall Elwood Smith has been named the new executive director of oncology services at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin.

Smith will be in charge of providing administrative, clinical and business leadership to the oncology department.

Smith received his master's degree in health care administration from the Medical University of South Carolina-Charleston, and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Winona State University, Rochester Center, in Rochester, Minn.

He previously served as administrator of cancer services at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, S.C.

Smith is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Oncology Administrators.
